The WB Unity Cup 2025 marked more than just a football tournament for the YB Foundation, it became a powerful reminder of what is possible when communities come together to invest in young people.
Hosted on 26 December 2025 at the Eluxeni Sports Ground in Qoqodala, Eastern Cape, the inaugural WB Unity Cup brought together four local football teams, community members, supporters, volunteers, and partners for a day filled with energy, connection, celebration, and purpose. Organised under the Active Youth Movement (AYM), an initiative of the YB Foundation, the tournament was created to encourage positive youth engagement through sport while restoring the spirit of unity within rural communities.
From the early hours of the morning, the atmosphere at Eluxeni Sports Ground reflected excitement and pride. Young players arrived ready to represent their teams and communities, while supporters gathered to witness a tournament that represented far more than football. The WB Unity Cup created a space where young people could laugh together, compete respectfully, build friendships, and feel seen, encouraged, and celebrated.
In many rural communities, opportunities for structured recreational activities remain limited. Young people often face challenges such as unemployment, substance abuse, violence, social isolation, and mental health struggles. Through the Active Youth Movement, the YB Foundation believes in creating safe and empowering environments where youth can channel their energy positively, discover their talents, and develop important life values such as discipline, leadership, teamwork, resilience, and respect.
The tournament was intentionally designed to be community-driven. Beyond the football matches, the day featured music, entertainment, community interaction, and moments of encouragement that brought people together across generations. Families, local leaders, and supporters stood side by side cheering on the players, creating a vibrant atmosphere that reminded everyone of the important role sport plays in building stronger communities.
For many of the young participants, the WB Unity Cup was more than a game, it was an opportunity to belong to something meaningful. It was a chance to proudly wear their team colours, step onto the field with confidence, and experience the joy of healthy competition and unity. The tournament became a platform where rural youth could feel inspired, motivated, and hopeful about their potential and future.
The success of the WB Unity Cup was made possible through the support of sponsors, local partners, volunteers, and community members who believed in the vision of empowering youth through sport. Their contributions helped provide refreshments, equipment, awards, logistical support, and a safe environment for everyone who attended. The YB Foundation extends heartfelt gratitude to every individual and organisation that played a role in bringing this vision to life.
As the final whistle blew and trophies were lifted, one thing became clear: the WB Unity Cup had already become more than an event. It became a symbol of unity, hope, and active youth engagement in Qoqodala. It demonstrated the impact that intentional community initiatives can have when young people are given opportunities to connect, grow, and thrive.
The YB Foundation remains committed to expanding the work of the Active Youth Movement and continuing to create spaces where young people are empowered beyond the limitations of their circumstances. The WB Unity Cup is only the beginning of a larger vision, one that seeks to build active, healthy, and united communities through sport, recreation, and meaningful youth development opportunities.
Because when young people move together, communities grow together.
